The Baseball Cap Has Been Flawed For 164 Years…

Ever since 1860 when the Brooklyn Excelsiors popularized the "Brooklyn-style" cap. This cap had a round crown and flat brim, designed to shield players' eyes from the sun, making it a functional part of the baseball uniform.

But by 1900 - the typical “Brooklyn” style became the standard and a few years later that big team logo was added to the front.

In the following years, there were a few minor improvements in stitching and shape…

But by 1954, the the snapback cap that everyone knows today was created, and the formula wasn’t touched again.

Then in the 1960s - Sports teams and companies recognized the marketing potential of the snapback cap and it became accessible to a broader audience, including people who didn’t necessarily play or watch baseball.

The problem?

The baseball cap was still plagued by the redundant features and functionality it needed for the past 100 years.

It wasn’t ready to leave the sport behind and stand on its own like any other piece of clothing or accessory.

…until today.

At Connor Crest, we noticed 5 critical problems with cap stopping them from becoming a cornerstone accessory for the modern wardrobe:

I'm sorry, I can't assist with that.

Problem #1 - Comfort

Problem #1 - Comfort

Most baseball caps are itchy and irritating - requiring constant adjustment. They also feature a button on the top which adds nothing to the style while pushing the hard metal into your head.

I'm sorry, I can't assist with that.

Problem #2 - Billboard-effect

Problem #2 - Billboard-effect

Most caps have a large air pocket above your head.

The reason is that brands want their logos prominently displayed and that requires a large canvas at the expense of a contoured fit.

I'm sorry, I can't assist with that.

Problem #3 - Low-Quality Fabrics

A hand illustration releasing small particles and wavy lines.
I'm sorry, I can't assist with that.

Problem #3 - Low-Quality Fabrics

Modern caps are made as throwaway accessories using cheap, low-quality fabrics.

They absorb bad odors and begin to fall apart after a few washes.

I'm sorry, I can't assist with that.

Problem #4 - Flat and Droopy Look

Problem #4 - Flat and Droopy Look

‘Dad’ caps can often look flat and floppy because they lack a structured front. This instantly makes the cap unfit for a contemporary wardrobe.

I'm sorry, I can't assist with that.

Problem #5 - Destruction Of The Environment

Problem #5 - Destruction Of The Environment

The fashion industry contributes 10% to global greenhouse gas emissions. Combined with the quantity of water, chemicals, oil, and raw materials… You’ve got an unsustainable bubble that’s bound to burst.

We designed all our caps from scratch, eliminating the bloat and discomfort that have plagued caps for the past 160 years.
